Russian and CIS Books

Now in stock is an excellent new two volume series on the operational and combat history of the Su-25 'Frogfoot' from 1991 through 2012. These are highly detailed and profusely illustrated Russian-language hardback volumes, available in very limited quantities. It took an age to get them out of Russia, they are expensive and heavy, but they're worth it...

'Su-25 Thirty Years in Service, Part 1 - Soviet Air Force 1981-91' (SU251 - $105)

To quote the author:

"Military service of the aircraft Su-25 (which known by callsigns "Frogfoot" and "Rook") is described in the book. In April of 2011 was celebration of the 30th anniversary since the moment when the first batch production aircraft were delivered to the Soviet Army. Much attention is paid to the operations of "rook" in Afghanistan and aspects of the technical development of the aircraft. The book contains many unique photos, relevant chronology of events. In the book are 400 pages of text and tables and 667 images (all main photos with description in English). Tables are given to the structure of combat divisions and lists of Su-25 aircraft (totally about 600 serial numbers), also the list of accidents and combat losses in Afghanistan. In the appendix are given full and authentic camouflage paint schemes (only combat aircraft of the Soviet period) in three projections for scale modeling. In total there are 29 kinds with history of the origin and significance of the emblems on the fuselages of the Su-25."

Linden Hill note: This volume contains an incredible number of hitherto unpublished photographs taken during Su-25 deployments to Afghanistan in the 1980s. Here's an idea of what part 1 contains:

'Su-25 Thirty Years in Service, Part 2 - Russian and CIS Air Forces 1992-2011' (SU252 - $105)

Again, to quote the author:

Linden Hill note: this second volume covers so much of interest to Linden Hill Decals! We're delighted that the authors have agreed to assist us with the preparation of our forthcoming Su-25UB decal sheets. Part 2 covers the Su-25's role in the withdrawal of former Soviet forces in Germany, through both Chechen wars and the conflict with Georgia in 2008, up to the end of 2011. Although Part 2 does not include English-language captions, the photographic contents are an absolute treasure trove for historians and modelers alike.
